”If your diet is bank account then good food choices are
good investment”. Eating good makes you feels good. And what could be better
than eating your own traditional home food. Traditional food goes beyond just
avoiding packed and processed food. It refers to food that are passed through
generations and consumed over the long term duration having rich taste, flavor.
But nowhere days this rich flavor and taste is somewhere lost between ready to
eat and processed food which although had made life easier but had increased
health problems.  

Fast food is popular because it’s cheap and it tastes good
but real cost of eating fast food never appears on menu. The carbohydrates you
find in processed foods are usually refined simple carbohydrates these lead to
spikes in blood sugar and insulin level and cause negative health effects.

Obviously, most foods we eat are processed in some way.
Apples are cut from trees, butter is cream that has been separated from milk
and churned. But there is difference between mechanical processing and chemical
processing. Processed food are high in sugar and fructose corn syrup. Food
manufacturers spend massive amounts of resources on making their food as
rewarding as possible to brain which leads to over consumption. For many
people. Junk foods can hijack the biochemistry of the brain, leading to
downright addiction and cause them to lose control over consumption.

There are many nutrients found in whole food that are lost
in processed foods. People are more dependent on processed food because they
burn only burn half as many calories digesting and metabolizing processed foods
compared to whole food. Hence the motive is accomplished which is to save time.

Ever wondered what people will be eating 35 years from now? Experts
says the diet of 2050 will revolve less around meat and more around bugs.

Traditional food skills are dying out rapidly, with modern
mothers having less time to spend in kitchen (working), unable to make gravy or
custard. Traditional cooking skills are somewhere lost. People don’t have time
to cook, relying more over processed ones. While most modern mothers will
simply squeeze a teabag into cup of boiling water, her seventies counterpart
would warm the pot and stew the tea, before staining the leaves and adding
milk.

If you truly get in touch with a piece of carrot, you get in
touch with the soil, the rain and the sunshine. You get in touch with the
mother earth and eating in such a way, you feel in touch with true life, your
roots.

Foods from land and sea once provided everything for people.
Today, a mix of market and traditional food is common for most of people. But
the rich nutrient containing food cannot be forgotten. They are rich source of
nutrients which are lost during processing. We struggle with eating healthily,
obesity and access good nutrient for everyone. But we have a great opportunity
to get on right side of this battle by thinking differently about the way we
eat and the way we approach food as a happy tummy smiles wide.
