As previously stated, Christianity is the largest religion in the world today. According to Illsley (2017), the Christian religion has approximately 2.2 billion followers. It first commenced two thousand years ago from Judaism, and Jewish influence from Jesus and his disciples. This dominant belief group has expanded to many countries and has evolved through many years. It also distributes into several branches such as: Roman Catholic, Orthodox, Anglican/Episcopalian, Anabaptist, Baptist, Lutheran, Pentecostal, Methodist, and etc. (McDarris, 1). Even though the religion has various branches, Christians still equally believe in one God and his son Jesus Christ. Jesus is known as our savior because of his sacrifice on the cross that saved us from sin, and his intimate relationship with God. In today’s society Christianity plays very important roles in our lives, morality, and even in government policies in religion dominated countries.
Furthermore, Islam is known as the second largest religion in the world with about 1.605 billion followers (Illsley, 1). The Islamic religion began in the 7th century C.E. through the prophet known as “Muhamad”, and then developed in the ruling tribe of Mecca. Along with the prophet belief, Muslims also admire their one and only God called “Allah”. The Quran, the blessed text of Islam, reveals the teachings that Allah introduced to Muhammad. The Quran plays a very important role in one’s life and is interpreted differently for each person. Different interpretations is how extremist groups become so powerful in their thoughts and actions. They interpret the Quran to an extreme and see it very differently than others regularly practicing the religion. Most of these aspects such as the prophet, the Quran interpretations differ from Christianity. Although both religions do have a similarity, which is the different branches within the religion. Islam’s top branches are Sunni (1.39 billion), Shi’a (200 million), Ahmadiyya (15 million), Ibadi (3 million), and Sufism (Widely disputed) (Pariona, 1). Overall, the Islam religion is very organized and has very different meanings such as God, the prophet, and the Quran.

Lastly, the third largest religion in the world is Hinduism with about 1.05 billion followers (Illsley, 1). The Hinduism religion is more than 4,000 years old, making it the oldest global religion. Most Hindus live in India, where all its history was believed to take place in. Although not much history and origin is known about this belief because of its old age and all the myths involved. It is mostly made up of many philosophies and customs put together. This religion also has many beliefs such as one Supreme Being, Creator, Divinity of the four Vedas (world’s most ancient scripture), endless creation of the universe, karma, soul reincarnation, diving beings existence in unseen worlds, enlightened master, sacred life, and believe that no other religion is as correct as Hinduism (KAUAI’S HINDU MONASTERY, 1). Hinduism has many needs and practices including recitation, annual festivals, meditation, and etc. Hinduism is a very complex and difficult to define due to the many requirements, strictness, and beliefs.
